Morocco's Strategic Leap in Clean Energy: $370 Million Lithium Battery Initiative
China Baoan and its subsidiary Betrui have unveiled a substantial $370 million investment in Tanger Science and Technology City, aimed at producing 60,000 tons of anode material annually. This development strengthens Morocco's foothold in the global lithium battery market.
Building on Betrui’s previous 50,000-ton facility in the region, this new project highlights Morocco’s increasing significance in clean energy and electric mobility. Key factors include its strategic location near European markets and supportive government policies.
The facility's construction is projected to span two years, with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch expressing strong support during a recent ceremony.
Morocco's rising new energy automotive industry, combined with favorable investment conditions, makes it an appealing hub for advanced material projects. The new plant is expected to bolster Morocco’s role in the global lithium battery supply chain, while also contributing to local economic growth and job creation in the high-tech manufacturing sector.
As Morocco advances in the lithium battery arena, it is poised to become a vital player in the clean energy and electric mobility landscape.
