Morocco strengthens post-market surveillance of medicines and vaccines
Morocco has taken a new step to reinforce its pharmaceutical oversight system with the launch of an enhanced post-market surveillance mechanism for medicines and vaccines.
On March 17 in Rabat, the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) held the first meeting of the National Committee for post-marketing surveillance. The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s pharmaceutical regulatory framework and ensure the safety of health products available to the public.
The meeting, chaired by the agency’s director general, brought together representatives from several institutions under the Ministry of Health. Discussions focused on improving coordination between stakeholders and establishing a structured approach to monitoring medicines and vaccines after they are introduced to the market.
Officials outlined key strategic priorities, including enhancing pharmacovigilance systems, improving the traceability of adverse event reports, and ensuring a faster response from health authorities when safety concerns arise. These measures aim to align Morocco with international standards in drug safety and regulatory practices.
The initiative also reflects the country’s ambition to strengthen its pharmaceutical sovereignty by ensuring better control over the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medical products. Experts say that robust post-market surveillance is essential to detect potential risks that may not appear during clinical trials, thereby protecting public health.
The establishment of this national committee marks a significant milestone in Morocco’s efforts to modernize its healthcare system and reinforce trust in medicines and vaccination programs.
