Morocco sees 11.6 million tourist arrivals by July, up 16%

Morocco welcomed 11.6 million tourists by the end of July 2025, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The surge highlights the country’s continuing appeal as a global travel destination.

Growth driven by Moroccan diaspora

The ministry attributed much of the growth to the strong return of Moroccans residing abroad, who accounted for 52% of total arrivals. Dispelling rumors of declining diaspora visits, the statement noted that their numbers rose by 7% in July alone, with 1.8 million arrivals recorded for the month.

Foreign tourist arrivals also saw modest growth, with 875,000 visitors arriving in July, up 2% year-on-year. In total, July recorded 2.7 million arrivals, a 6% increase compared to the same month in 2024.

A destination of choice

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor praised the continued growth, emphasizing Morocco’s reputation as a destination that resonates deeply with both local and international visitors. She credited the success to efforts aligned with Morocco’s 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, which focuses on meeting visitor expectations and enhancing the country’s global appeal.

Last year, Morocco welcomed 17.4 million tourists. With the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup co-hosting duties in the pipeline, the country is poised to achieve its ambitious goal of attracting 26 million visitors annually by 2030.
