Morocco Wins Fourth Consecutive Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Title
Morocco has reinforced its position at the summit of African futsal after defeating Angola 5-2 in the final of the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday, October 21, in Rabat. The victory secured a fourth consecutive continental crown for the hosts, extending a remarkable run of success in a competition they have come to dominate.
Playing in front of their home supporters at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, the Moroccan national team delivered a decisive performance against a determined Angolan side. The result added another trophy to the national team's collection and confirmed Morocco's continued consistency at continental level.
A decisive victory on home soil
The final developed into a competitive encounter, with both teams looking to establish control before the break. Morocco eventually opened the scoring through Othmane Idrissi in the 17th minute, but Angola responded almost immediately through João Josemar Cambangula.
The hosts regained the advantage two minutes later when Youssef Jouad found the net, allowing Morocco to head into the second half with a 2-1 lead.
Morocco then increased the pressure after the restart. Driss Raiss El Fenni scored in the 21st minute to extend the advantage, before Ismail Amazal added a fourth goal in the 33rd minute. Bilal Bakkali subsequently made it 5-1, giving the hosts a comfortable cushion. Angola's Anderson Fortes scored late in the match, but the response came too late to alter the outcome.
The 5-2 victory reflected Morocco's attacking effectiveness and ability to respond quickly when challenged by their opponents.
Four consecutive titles mark a new milestone
The triumph places Morocco in a historic position in African futsal. The national team had previously won the continental championship in 2016, 2020 and 2024. By retaining the trophy in 2026, Morocco became the first nation to claim four successive editions of the competition.
The latest achievement also strengthens the country's standing in a sport that has grown in visibility and competitiveness across Africa. Morocco's sustained results have established the team as a major force on the continent, while the consistency of its performances has become a defining feature of its recent international campaign.
Hicham Dguig's team delivers another strong tournament
Under head coach Hicham Dguig, Morocco entered the competition with the pressure of defending its title in front of a home crowd. The team responded with a convincing series of performances throughout the tournament.
Morocco began the group stage with victories over Algeria, Zambia and Libya, finishing at the top of Group A with nine points. The hosts then defeated Egypt 6-0 in the semi-final to secure their place in the decisive match.
The final completed a productive campaign in which Morocco combined attacking output with defensive discipline. The team's ability to maintain its level across the group stage and knockout rounds proved central to its successful title defence.
Rabat provides the setting for a continental celebration
Hosting the 2026 tournament gave Morocco the opportunity to compete for the trophy before its own supporters. The final in Rabat brought the championship to a close with another major sporting achievement for the country.
Beyond the immediate result, the fourth consecutive title represents a significant benchmark for Moroccan futsal. Sustaining success across multiple editions requires more than a single strong performance; it reflects continuity, preparation and the ability to deliver under pressure in decisive matches.
With another African championship secured, Morocco now has a new standard to defend in future editions as it seeks to preserve its place among the continent's leading futsal nations.
