Morocco’s Trade With Africa Reaches $9.5 Billion in 2025

Morocco's trade with African countries reached $9.5 billion in 2025, highlighting the Kingdom's growing economic integration with the continent and its expanding role in regional commerce.

According to the 2026 African Trade Report published by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Morocco is among a select group of leading African economies driving intra-African trade. The country joins regional economic hubs such as South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, and Côte d'Ivoire in supporting the steady growth of commercial exchanges across the continent.

The increase comes as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) continues to promote stronger economic ties among African nations. Although intra-African trade is expanding, experts note that logistical bottlenecks, high transportation costs, and infrastructure gaps remain significant challenges to deeper regional integration.

Morocco's performance reflects a broader transformation of its economy toward higher-value industrial production. Unlike many African economies that rely heavily on oil, gas, or raw material exports, Morocco has strengthened its manufacturing base by expanding exports of automobiles, transport equipment, chemicals, and other industrial products.

This diversified industrial sector has enabled Moroccan companies to respond more effectively to growing demand across African markets while integrating into regional and global value chains. The country's modern infrastructure, strategic geographic location, and investment-friendly environment have further reinforced its position as a commercial gateway between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

Despite this progress, Europe and Asia remain Morocco's largest trading partners. France, Spain, and China continued to dominate the Kingdom's external trade in 2025, illustrating Morocco's dual role as both a key supplier to European industries and an increasingly important partner for African economies.

Economic analysts believe that expanding commercial ties with African countries will help Morocco diversify its export markets, reduce exposure to global economic fluctuations, and strengthen long-term economic resilience.

As regional trade initiatives continue to develop, Morocco is expected to play an increasingly influential role in promoting investment, industrial cooperation, and sustainable economic growth across the African continent.
