Morocco's social assistance initiative has witnessed a substantial response, with 4.6 million applications submitted by July 6. This announcement came from Nadia Fettah, the Minister of Economy and Finance, during a recent session in the House of Representatives.

Fettah highlighted the current state of the direct social assistance program, which aims to support needy families across the nation. A total of 3.81 million families have been approved as beneficiaries, with the amount disbursed reaching MAD 2 billion ($205 million). The acceptance rate for these applications stands at an impressive 82%, underscoring the program's broad reach and effectiveness.

The minister provided a detailed breakdown of the assistance distributed. A significant portion, covering 2.3 million families, has been allocated for child risk protection benefits, amounting to MAD 1.26 billion ($129 million). Additionally, 1.5 million families have received lump-sum payments designed to bolster purchasing power and provide financial security against the risks associated with aging.

Despite the high acceptance rate, the program has also seen a number of rejections. In June alone, 23,179 applications were turned down, with 31% of these concerning lump-sum benefits and the remaining 69% related to child protection benefits. Minister Fettah clarified that the primary reasons for these rejections included 14,600 applications from salaried employees or pensioners who did not meet the criteria, and 2,000 applications from individuals already receiving support from the Family Mutual Assistance Fund.

The direct social assistance program represents a critical effort by the Moroccan government to address economic vulnerabilities among its citizens, particularly in the face of ongoing economic challenges. The significant number of applications and the high acceptance rate reflect both the demand for such support and the government's commitment to extending a safety net to its most vulnerable populations.

This initiative highlights the Moroccan government's dedication to providing financial security and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. As the program continues to evolve, it remains a vital component of the country's strategy to combat economic hardship and ensure sustainable development.
