Morocco's COVID-19 Weekly Tally: One Fatality and 35 New Infections

In its weekly bulletin, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported a total of 35 new COVID-19 infections and one death from the virus this week.

The ministry's epidemiological situation bulletin, covering the period from May 18 to May 24, 2024, revealed that the number of people who received their first dose of the vaccine reached 24,924,807, while 23,426,825 individuals were fully vaccinated with two doses. Additionally, 6,889,544 people received a third booster shot, and 61,559 individuals received a fourth dose.

The new weekly infection tally brings the total number of confirmed cases in Morocco since the first case was reported on March 2, 2020, to 1,279,224, with a weekly positivity rate of 8%.

Regrettably, the total number of deaths linked to COVID-19 in the country has risen to 16,306, representing an overall fatality rate of 1.3%.

The newly reported infections were distributed across the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (29 cases), Souss-Massa (4 cases), Grand Casablanca-Settat (1 case), and Béni Mellal-Khénifra (1 case).

As the nation continues to grapple with the lingering effects of the pandemic, the Ministry's weekly update serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing vigilance required to combat the virus. While the numbers may fluctuate, the commitment to vaccination efforts and adherence to preventive measures remains crucial in safeguarding public health and mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on Moroccan communities.
