Morocco Ranks Among Belgians' Favorite Destinations in 2025

Morocco confirms its appeal to Belgian travelers. According to the latest data from Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, the Kingdom ranked among the top ten foreign destinations for Belgian residents in 2025, with nearly 700,000 trips recorded throughout the year.

The country occupies the sixth position in the overall ranking of international destinations chosen by Belgians. It stands behind France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Germany, but ahead of several particularly popular European destinations, including the United Kingdom, Portugal, Austria, and Greece.

This performance places Morocco at the forefront of non-European destinations in the ranking. This position highlights the importance of the Kingdom in the travel habits of Belgian travelers, while European destinations remain largely dominant.

Nearly 15 Million Overnight Stays in Morocco

Beyond the number of trips, Statbel's statistics highlight the economic impact of these journeys. Stays in Morocco in 2025 accounted for approximately 14.9 million overnight stays and generated around 706 million euros in spending.

Focusing solely on tourism-related trips, the Kingdom recorded 335,000 movements from Belgian residents. These trips represented over 6.4 million overnight stays and approximately 375 million euros in spending.

The gap between the overall data and those dedicated to tourism trips shows that mobility between Belgium and Morocco is not limited to vacations and leisure. The statistics account for all trips involving at least one overnight stay, while the tourism category specifically corresponds to trips taken in a travel context.

Morocco Outpaces Several European Destinations

With its approximately 700,000 trips, Morocco outpaces the United Kingdom, which totals around 660,000 movements. Portugal follows with 558,000 trips, then Austria with 509,000 and Greece with 428,000.

France maintains a considerable lead, coming in first with 6.856 million trips. The Netherlands follows with 2.633 million, ahead of Spain with 2.217 million. Italy and Germany complete the top group with 1.452 million and 1.437 million movements, respectively.

Morocco's positioning appears even more significant as it is the only country outside of Europe to feature in this Top 10 list of foreign destinations for Belgian travelers.

Holidays and Leisure Remain the Main Drivers of Travel

On a global scale, Belgian residents made 31.2 million trips involving at least one overnight stay in 2025. Among them, 21.8 million were made abroad.

Trips related to personal reasons, particularly holidays and leisure, account for the majority of this mobility, with 29.3 million trips. These figures provide insight into the importance of tourism in the travel habits of Belgian residents.

For Morocco, these data certainly confirm a solid place in the travel choices of this clientele. With several hundred thousand movements and millions of overnight stays recorded in a single year, the Kingdom asserts itself as a major international destination for Belgian travelers.
