Morocco Expresses Optimism for Syria's Future Amid New Developments

Morocco's Foreign Affairs Minister, Nasser Bourita, expressed his country's continued support for Syria’s territorial integrity and national unity in the wake of recent significant developments in the country. Bourita emphasized that Morocco is closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation in Syria, hoping that the current developments will pave the way for greater stability and fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people.

During a press conference, Bourita reiterated Morocco’s unwavering stance on Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, asserting that the North African nation’s position will not change. He stated that Morocco continues to support Syria's unity and has consistently backed the Syrian people in their pursuit of a brighter future.

In reflecting on Morocco’s historical position, Bourita mentioned that the country had taken a strong stance in 2012 by closing its embassy in Damascus and requesting the closure of the Syrian embassy in Rabat. This decision was driven by the violent repression and civilian casualties in Syria at the time. Despite this diplomatic break, Morocco has always maintained its support for Syria's sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs. Bourita reaffirmed that Morocco remains committed to ensuring the stability of Syria and supporting the wishes of its people.

Recently, Syrian rebel groups announced that they had liberated the country from the rule of Bashar al-Assad, seizing several strategic cities since November 27. This development has led to celebrations in Syria as rebels vow to implement a smooth political transition that aligns with the aspirations of the Syrian people.

While these events unfold, Morocco remains focused on ensuring Syria's long-term stability and unity, staying aligned with its broader policy goals in the region.
