Moroccan automotive exports surge as industry strengthens global position

Morocco's automotive industry continued its strong expansion during the first four months of 2026, reinforcing its status as one of the country's leading export sectors. Automotive exports exceeded 58.28 billion dirhams by the end of April, marking an annual increase of 18.6% compared with the same period a year earlier.

The sector's growth was driven primarily by its two main pillars. Vehicle manufacturing posted a sharp increase of 33.5%, reaching 23.88 billion dirhams. The wiring segment also recorded solid growth, rising 16.1% to 22.09 billion dirhams. These results underline the increasing integration of Morocco into global automotive supply chains and confirm the country's role as a strategic production hub for international manufacturers.

The aerospace industry also maintained positive momentum during the period. Exports from the sector climbed 15.9% to 11.03 billion dirhams. Growth was supported by stronger sales in aircraft assembly activities, which advanced 20.7%, while EWIS systems exports increased by 6.9%. The performance reflects continued investment in Morocco's industrial ecosystem and the diversification of its export base.

Not all industries followed the same trajectory. Textile and leather exports declined by 6.7%, while electronics and electrical products fell by 3.5%. Phosphate and derivative exports also slipped by 1.5%. In contrast, agriculture and agri food exports recorded modest growth of 0.8%, maintaining a stable contribution to external trade.

Overall Moroccan exports reached 168.85 billion dirhams by the end of April, representing annual growth of 8.7%. The figures point to the resilience of the country's export economy despite uneven performances across sectors. Strong gains in automotive and aerospace activities continue to offset weakness in other industries and support Morocco's ambition to expand its presence in international manufacturing networks.
