Mali convoy attacks escalate as Moroccan trucks burned by armed group
Armed men linked to the Masina movement attacked and burned trucks carrying food and supplies from Morocco to Mali, according to accounts from witnesses and regional security reports. The convoy was traveling along a key supply route near Koki Zamal, close to the Mauritanian border, heading toward Bamako when it was intercepted.
Witnesses said the attackers stopped the vehicles on the road and set them on fire after targeting fuel tanks. The trucks were quickly engulfed in flames. Footage circulating online shows armed individuals around burning vehicles, with gunfire heard in the background, suggesting a coordinated operation rather than an isolated incident.
The attack is part of a wider pattern of violence affecting major transport corridors in the Sahel. These routes connect coastal ports in Mauritania and Senegal with landlocked Mali and are essential for moving food, fuel, and commercial goods. In recent days, similar attacks have targeted convoys coming from Senegal and Mauritania, disrupting regional trade flows and raising pressure on supply chains serving urban centers such as Bamako.
Security conditions in Mali have continued to deteriorate following a series of coordinated assaults across multiple regions. Armed groups have increasingly targeted infrastructure and logistics networks, including road transport routes used for humanitarian and commercial deliveries. The growing frequency of convoy burnings has intensified concerns over access to essential goods in several cities, where dependence on cross-border supply routes remains high.
