Lyhanna case: Inspection report highlights allegations involving suspect Jérôme Barella

An inspection report submitted to the French government has revealed new elements concerning the investigation into the Lyhanna case and possible failures in the handling of previous allegations involving the main suspect, Jérôme Barella.

According to the report, Rosa, a 10-year-old girl whose parents filed a complaint in 2025, allegedly reported having suffered repeated sexual abuse by the suspect. The document states that the child described around fifty alleged assaults during statements made to relatives and authorities.

The report indicates that Rosa was taken to Purpan Hospital in Toulouse on August 18, 2025, after disclosing the alleged abuse to her stepfather. Medical staff then contacted the police, who identified the seriousness of the situation based on the child’s statements.

The inspection was launched following the discovery of Lyhanna’s body and aimed to examine possible shortcomings in the management of the case. Investigators reviewed the actions taken by different authorities and the way previous information concerning the suspect was handled.

The report raises questions about whether all relevant information and the suspect’s history were properly considered during the judicial process. Authorities are continuing their investigations to clarify the circumstances and determine any possible responsibilities.

The case has attracted significant public attention in France, highlighting issues related to child protection, reporting procedures, and the importance of a rapid response when allegations of abuse are brought to authorities.
