Jean Lassalle launches crowdfunding campaign ahead of possible 2027 French presidential bid
Former presidential candidate Jean Lassalle has launched an online fundraising campaign to support a possible third run for France’s presidency in 2027, saying he wants to continue defending issues he believes are overlooked by traditional political forces.
The former lawmaker announced the initiative through social media, explaining that the success of the fundraising effort would help determine whether he officially enters the next presidential race.
A possible third presidential campaign
Jean Lassalle said he plans to assess the results of the crowdfunding campaign in the autumn before deciding whether to move forward with another candidacy.
The former independent candidate argued that previous campaigns allowed him to bring public attention to subjects that, in his view, were largely ignored by other political figures.
Lassalle previously competed in the 2017 and 2022 presidential elections, receiving 1.2% and 3.1% of the vote respectively.
Criticism of political system and campaign financing
Presenting himself as a candidate outside established political structures, Lassalle said he intends to continue a political approach focused on challenging what he describes as “the system.”
He criticized the current campaign environment, arguing that smaller political movements face significant obstacles compared with major parties that have greater financial and institutional resources.
The former rural representative called for stronger support mechanisms for smaller political organizations, saying access to elections should be more balanced.
A long political career outside mainstream parties
Jean Lassalle, a former mayor and member of parliament from rural France, has built his political identity around local issues and opposition to centralized decision-making.
Previously associated with the UDF and later the MoDem, he left the movement in 2016 and founded his own political party, Résistons.
His potential 2027 candidacy would mark his third attempt to compete in a presidential election, continuing a political trajectory centered on independence and direct engagement with voters.
