Iran Condemns EU's Sanctions After Retaliatory Strike on Israel
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has strongly criticized the European Union's recent decision to impose sanctions on Tehran following its direct attack on Israel earlier this month. Amirabdollahian used digital platforms to voice his disapproval, arguing that the EU's swift move reflects a double standard and shows bias toward the interests of the "criminal Israeli regime."
"It is regrettable that the EU hastily decided to impose additional restrictions against Iran for merely exercising its legitimate right to self-defense in response to Israel's reckless aggression," Amirabdollahian stated, his words filled with evident frustration.
The Iranian Foreign Minister's sharp remarks come after Tehran launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israeli territory earlier this month in retaliation for a bombing at Iran's consulate in Damascus on April 1, which killed seven senior Iranian commanders and military personnel. Although Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for the consulate attack, it is widely suspected to be the perpetrator.
Amirabdollahian's statement also highlighted Iran's growing frustration with the international community's perceived inaction in response to Israel's continued aggression, especially the ongoing conflict in Gaza. "It's equally regrettable that while Israel commits war crimes against the Palestinians through missile attacks and other brutal acts, the EU's response amounts to little more than empty rhetoric," he added.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that the EU's alignment with the United States' stance on Iran only perpetuates injustice and undermines Tehran's right to self-defense. He urged the EU to redirect its focus toward sanctioning Israel, arguing that Israel's actions deserve international condemnation and punitive measures. "The EU must act responsibly and sanction the Israeli regime," he concluded, echoing the anger felt by many Iranians.
