Google enters Ai-powered online shopping with Gemini

Google has officially stepped into AI-assisted online commerce with the launch of a new professional version of its generative artificial intelligence model, Gemini, aiming to reshape how consumers search for products, make purchases, and interact with customer service.

The updated Gemini platform allows users to complete the entire shopping journey without leaving the application. Consumers can search for products, receive personalized recommendations, finalize purchases, and communicate with retailers’ customer support through a single interface. According to Google, the goal is to create a seamless and frictionless shopping experience while keeping users within its AI ecosystem.

The system relies on conversational interactions to better understand user preferences and propose products from partner brands that have adopted Google’s new AI commerce protocol. As conversations evolve, Gemini refines its suggestions, increasing the likelihood that product searches turn into completed sales.

Google has already secured partnerships with several major retail and food franchises in the United States, including supermarket chains, home improvement stores, and restaurant brands. Retailers involved say the technology allows them to personalize customer interactions and simplify decision-making throughout the buying process.

International retailers are also joining the initiative. Some European groups have announced plans to integrate Gemini into their digital shopping journeys, with the aim of offering faster, more intuitive purchasing paths directly through Google’s platforms.

With this move, Google positions itself as a direct competitor to other generative AI players in the rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape, signaling a new phase in the convergence of artificial intelligence, retail, and digital services.
