Ghanaian suspect wanted for money laundering arrested at Casablanca Airport
A Ghanaian national wanted by the United States for alleged involvement in money laundering activities has been arrested at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Moroccan authorities confirmed.
According to a statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspect was detained after border control officers identified him through international security databases. The arrest was carried out under global police cooperation mechanisms involving INTERPOL.
The individual is accused by U.S. authorities of participating in a transnational criminal network involved in large-scale financial fraud and the laundering of illicit proceeds generated through various scams. He had been the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, indicating that he was actively sought for prosecution.
Following his arrest, the suspect has been placed under extradition procedures in accordance with Moroccan law. Judicial authorities are expected to review the request and coordinate with U.S. counterparts regarding the transfer of the case file and subsequent legal proceedings.
Moroccan security services emphasized that the operation reflects ongoing international cooperation in combating cross-border financial crime and strengthening efforts against organized criminal networks.
Further legal steps will determine whether the suspect is extradited to the United States to face charges.
