France’s trade deficit narrows to €5.8 billion in August
France’s trade deficit narrowed for the third consecutive month in August, reaching €5.8 billion, according to data released by the customs office on Tuesday. The improvement was driven by an increase in exports and stable import levels.
Exports rose by €300 million, totaling €51.8 billion, while imports remained steady at €57.6 billion. The country’s energy balance improved slightly, reducing the deficit to €3.5 billion, thanks to lower energy imports and higher exports. The deficit in manufactured goods held steady at €4.2 billion, while the agricultural balance remained even for the fourth month in a row.
Over the past twelve months, France’s cumulative trade deficit stood at €78.5 billion, an improvement of €1.7 billioncompared to the previous month. Customs officials also noted a decline in the number of French exporters to the United States during the second quarter, following an earlier increase, which they attributed to trade tensions and the anticipation of new U.S. tariffs.
