European Union imposes new sanctions on Iranian officials over human rights violations
The European Union has announced a new round of sanctions targeting 19 Iranian officials and entities accused of serious human rights violations. The measures were confirmed by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, who emphasized the bloc’s commitment to defending fundamental rights.
According to European officials, the sanctions are intended to hold individuals and organizations accountable for actions linked to repression and restrictions on civil liberties in Iran. These measures may include asset freezes, travel bans, and other financial restrictions designed to increase pressure on those involved.
Kallas stated that the decision sends a clear political message to Tehran, stressing that the future of the country cannot be built on repression or the violation of human rights. She also reaffirmed that the European Union will continue to monitor developments closely and take further action if necessary.
The move reflects ongoing tensions between the EU and Iran over human rights issues and regional security concerns. European leaders say the sanctions are part of a broader strategy aimed at encouraging dialogue while maintaining firm pressure on authorities responsible for abuses.
