Egypt adds four state-owned companies to privatisation programme, cabinet announces

Egypt has added four state-owned companies to its ongoing privatisation programme, according to a statement from the cabinet on Sunday, marking another step in the country’s efforts to restructure parts of its public sector and attract greater private investment.

The decision reflects continued government policy aimed at expanding private-sector participation in strategic industries while improving efficiency and reducing fiscal pressure on the state.

Energy and tourism firms included in latest wave

Three of the companies listed for potential privatisation operate in the petroleum sector. These include Engineering for Petroleum and Chemical Industries (ENPPI), Egyptian Linear Alkyl Benzene Company (ELAB), and Petroleum Marine Services.

The fourth company included in the programme is Maamoura for Reconstruction and Tourism Development, which operates in the real estate and tourism-related development sector.

Part of broader structural reform agenda

Egypt has been pursuing a long-term economic reform strategy that includes the gradual divestment of state assets across multiple sectors, including energy, manufacturing and real estate.

Officials say the programme is designed to enhance competitiveness, encourage foreign investment and support macroeconomic stability amid ongoing fiscal challenges and external financing needs.
