Dakhla as a strategic bridge between Africa and Latin America

The Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, thanks to its economic potential and strategic geographic location, serves as a vital link connecting Africa and Latin America, stated Marco Tulio Gustavo Chicas Sosa, the Ambassador of Guatemala to Morocco, during his visit to Dakhla.

Ambassador Chicas Sosa emphasized Dakhla’s special significance for Guatemala, highlighting its central position in the Atlantic and Morocco’s Africa-oriented vision.

He underscored the crucial role Dakhla can play in strengthening renewed South-South cooperation based on peace, development, and intercontinental solidarity.

The ambassador praised the region's dynamic development, particularly noting major projects such as the new Dakhla Atlantique port, which reflect the area's growing economic infrastructure.

Moulay Boutal Lembarki, Vice-President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, described the visit as a key opportunity for the Guatemalan ambassador to directly observe the region’s economic realities and promising outlook.

This meeting also highlighted important initiatives like the Royal initiative to provide Sahel countries access to the Atlantic and the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline project, which are part of the South-South cooperation framework promoted by King Mohammed VI.

During his stay, Ambassador Chicas Sosa met with Ali Khalil, Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and Governor of Oued Eddahab province, as well as with the Vice-President of the Regional Council. These discussions focused on the region’s major economic potential, ongoing projects, and investment support mechanisms.

Accompanied by Williams Haroldo Cordón Loyo, Consul General of Guatemala in Dakhla, the ambassador visited the construction site of the Dakhla Atlantique port, where he reviewed the progress of the work, planned infrastructure, and the project's potential to boost regional and intercontinental trade.

The visit also included meetings with the Presidents of the Regional Chamber of Agriculture and the Chamber of Commerce, along with visits to the Regional Directorate of Culture and the office of the Guatemalan Consulate General in Dakhla.
