Casablanca Settat launches territorial health governance reform initiative

The government has launched a new phase of health system reform in the Casablanca Settat region through the installation of the territorial health group known as GST. The first board meeting of the GST was held in Casablanca and chaired by the head of government. The initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to reorganize the healthcare system at regional level.

The new governance model aims to improve coordination between health facilities and bring services closer to citizens. Authorities are focusing on creating a more structured system that links primary healthcare centers, provincial hospitals, regional hospitals, and university hospital structures. The objective is to ensure smoother patient care pathways and reduce pressure on overcrowded facilities.

During the meeting, members approved the action plan and budget for 2026. This decision sets the operational framework for the coming year and confirms the rollout of an integrated management approach. The model emphasizes shared planning across institutions and improved allocation of resources within the region.

Casablanca Settat, home to more than 7.6 million people, represents one of the most demanding regions in terms of public healthcare needs. The system faces persistent strain despite a dense network of facilities. The reform also highlights the role of a future hospital and university complex in Casablanca, alongside investments in human resources, infrastructure modernization, and digital tools to support healthcare delivery.
