Casablanca prosecutor refutes organ theft claims in Youssef Bejjaj case

The Public Prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal has issued a firm response to allegations made by the mother of Youssef Bejjaj, a young man who died in a traffic accident in 2021. In a recent video circulating on social media, she claimed that her son’s organs were removed without her consent—an accusation the prosecutor says is “false and completely unfounded.”

According to the official statement, the case had already been the subject of a thorough investigation by the National Brigade of Judicial Police under the direct supervision of the prosecution. The inquiry found that the organ donation process complied fully with Moroccan Law No. 16-98, which regulates the donation, removal, and transplantation of human organs and tissues.

The statement clarifies that the removal of Youssef Bejjaj’s kidneys and corneas was carried out only after explicit, written consent was obtained from his mother. Her signature, fingerprint, and national ID number are all documented, the prosecutor emphasized. The donation took place after the official declaration of brain death, as confirmed by a team of medical specialists and validated by a CT scan.

Furthermore, the organ transplant procedures were supervised by a specialized medical committee, and the donated organs were allocated to patients listed by the authorized hospital registry. All actions were recorded in accordance with legal and hospital protocols, the statement added.

This clarification comes in response to growing attention on social media, where the video sparked controversy and fueled speculation. Authorities urge the public to rely on verified information and respect the procedures that govern such sensitive medical practices.
