In a remarkable display of determination and resilience, Afaf Hamdoune, the Moroccan motorsports enthusiast, has undertaken a challenging journey across African nations to support her team in the continental football fiesta. Her odyssey, spanning 18000 kilometers from Casablanca to Abidjan, not only serves as a symbol of cohesion and unity but also sends a powerful message to celebrate the strength and capabilities of women, particularly in the realm of motorsports.
Afaf's expedition, traversing the vast expanse of the Sahara, negotiating the challenging Mauritanian terrain, and navigating through the night in Senegal, culminated in her arrival in Bamako before the final leg to Abidjan. This challenging trek aimed not only to represent the essence of Moroccan womanhood but also to showcase their prowess and resilience, particularly in the domain of motorsports.
The primary objectives of Afaf's journey are twofold to champion and support Moroccan women in sports and to foster fraternal bonds between diverse nations. "I am very content with the reception from l’ambassadeur du Royaume du Maroc au Mali, who welcomed us with open arms after this adventure. The entire embassy team rallied behind me, accompanying me on a challenging route. I thank them immensely," Afaf remarked, acknowledging the embassy's pivotal role in providing much-needed assistance and support.
Despite facing health challenges, Afaf remains resolute in her commitment. She commenced her journey on December 31, 2023, showcasing the strong will and determination that define this "Amazon of the feminist cause." Afaf's journey is not merely a physical feat but a testament to the indomitable spirit that propels her towards promoting women's empowerment and breaking stereotypes.
