Morocco and Malawi to Convene Historic First Joint Cooperation Commission

Rabat and Lilongwe are poised to strengthen their bilateral ties with a significant diplomatic meeting scheduled for early 2024, marking a historic milestone for both nations.

On Monday, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Malawian counterpart, Nancy Tembo, jointly announced the inaugural session of the Morocco-Malawi Joint Cooperation Commission (JCC) during the first quarter of the coming year.

Highlighting the pivotal role of the JCC, the two top diplomats underscored its significance in fostering collaboration across crucial sectors such as agriculture, mining, energy, tourism, and education. A commitment was made to establish a conducive environment that promotes increased trade and investments between Moroccan and Malawian businesses.

In a joint communiqué, Ministers Bourita and Tembo pledged to regularly convene the JCC in accordance with existing agreements. They lauded the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between the two nations and their respective leaders, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.

The convening of the JCC signifies a new chapter in diplomatic relations, coinciding with the expansion of Rabat and Lilongwe's diplomatic presence through the opening of new embassies over the past year. With a shared political commitment, Morocco and Malawi are poised to elevate their flourishing partnership to unprecedented heights.
