Morocco Engages with BRICS Nations at Economic Forum in Xiamen
The city of Xiamen, China, recently hosted the 2024 BRICS Forum focused on partnerships for a new industrial era on September 10 and 11. Morocco was represented by Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, who emphasized the significance of the event for showcasing Morocco's industrial achievements and exploring potential collaborations with BRICS member countries.
In a post on the social media platform X, Mezzour remarked, "This was a valuable opportunity to share Morocco's industrial accomplishments and to investigate avenues for cooperation with BRICS nations." The forum, themed "Fostering High-Quality Partnerships and Embarking on a New Journey Towards New Industrialization," attracted participation from 31 countries, according to reports from Chinese media.
It is noteworthy that Morocco had previously opted out of the BRICS forum held in South Africa in August 2023, primarily due to the presence of representatives from the Polisario Front, a group that Morocco does not recognize.
Looking ahead, the next BRICS summit is scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, Russia, where further discussions on economic collaboration and industrial development are anticipated.
