HM King Mohammed VI calls for accelerated development and equitable growth in Morocco

His Majesty King Mohammed VI formally opened the fifth and final legislative session of Morocco’s 11th Parliament on Friday, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid. In his speech, the King emphasized the importance of achieving equitable growth, fostering local development, and ensuring social and territorial justice across the nation.

Focus on comprehensive development

Addressing the Members of Parliament, the King called for a stronger commitment to legislative and oversight responsibilities, urging lawmakers to complete ongoing projects and prioritize impactful legislation. He stressed the need to align flagship national projects with social programs, emphasizing that both serve the goal of improving citizens' living conditions.

The King highlighted the responsibility of parliamentarians, political parties, local councils, media, and civil society in communicating public initiatives and safeguarding citizens’ rights. He also reiterated the urgency of fulfilling the aspirations of all citizens, regardless of their location, through enhanced cooperation across all levels of governance.

Advancing local and regional equity

HM King Mohammed VI identified local development as a mirror reflecting Morocco’s progress. He reaffirmed his commitment to tackling inter-regional disparities, describing social and territorial equity as a central policy objective. The King emphasized that achieving justice requires mobilizing all national resources and fostering a results-driven culture based on accurate field data and digital technology.

In line with these objectives, he urged the government to accelerate next-generation development programs, ensuring that both urban and rural areas benefit equally. The King highlighted key priorities, including youth employment, economic growth, education, health, and local infrastructure development.

Strategic directives for sustainable progress

The King outlined three specific focus areas to reinforce Morocco’s development strategy:

1- Supporting fragile regions: He called for special attention to vulnerable areas, particularly mountainous regions and oases, which constitute 30% of the national territory. An integrated public policy tailored to these regions' unique needs and resources is essential for harmonious development.

2- Sustainable coastal development: The King emphasized sustainable management of Morocco’s coastline through mechanisms like the Coastal Law and National Coastal Plan, balancing rapid growth with environmental protection and economic potential.

3- Expanding rural centers: He advocated for the expansion of emerging rural centers to manage urban growth, mitigate its adverse effects, and bring essential services closer to rural populations.

Call for unity and accountability

As the legislative term concludes, His Majesty King Mohammed VI urged all political actors to rise to the challenges ahead with integrity, dedication, and a unified focus on the nation’s best interests. He stressed the importance of combating inefficiency and ensuring the effective use of public resources to maximize the benefits of government programs and investments.

The King concluded his speech with a call for collective action to fulfill the aspirations of all Moroccans, ensuring a prosperous and equitable future for the nation.
