Possible visit of King Mohammed VI to France in late 2025 or early 2026
The long-postponed state visit of King Mohammed VI to France is expected to take place either in the last quarter of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026, according to a Moroccan diplomatic source.
Before the official state visit, which follows an invitation from the French president, a joint high commission meeting chaired by the French and Moroccan heads of government is scheduled for the autumn. This meeting will precede the visit.
Additional meetings and visits will be organized beforehand to assess progress on bilateral issues. Among these are a mixed migration group meeting on June 25 in Paris and the planned visit of the Moroccan Interior Minister on July 7.
During a visit to Rabat in April, the French Interior Minister announced an agreement to enhance cooperation on migrant readmissions. This includes the establishment of a joint group tasked with determining the nationality status of certain irregular migrants.
In July 2024, the French president strongly supported Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, ending years of tensions and paving the way for the King's state visit.
In a letter to the King, the French president confirmed that the Moroccan plan is now the sole basis for achieving a just, lasting, and negotiated political solution in line with UN Security Council resolutions a position reaffirmed since.
