King Mohammed VI Approves New Judicial Appointments in Morocco

King Mohammed VI, in his capacity as President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), has approved 17 new appointments to key judicial positions across Morocco, as part of the January 2025 session. These designations represent about 7% of leadership roles within the national court system and reflect an ongoing effort to rejuvenate the judicial elite and enhance institutional performance.

Key Appointments Across the Judiciary

The approved changes include:

6 presidents of Courts of Appeal
1 public prosecutor at a Commercial Court of Appeal
5 presidents of First Instance Courts
5 public prosecutors at First Instance Courts

Promoting Gender Balance and Youth Inclusion

Notably, three women magistrates were appointed to leadership roles, including one taking on such responsibilities for the first time demonstrating a commitment to gender equality and broader inclusion in judicial leadership. Additionally, two judges have been assigned for the first time to lead courts, indicating a focus on integrating new talent and perspectives.

Call for Integrity and Professionalism

The CSPJ commended the appointed magistrates for earning the King’s trust and urged them to embody integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of responsibility. The Council emphasized the importance of fair trial guarantees, timely resolution of cases, and the effective enforcement of judicial decisions.

These appointments align with Morocco’s broader judicial reform efforts, which aim to improve governance, strengthen judicial independence, and enhance public trust in the legal system.
