US Strikes on Iran: Trump Says “I Might Do It, I Might Not”

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Donald Trump has left the door open regarding potential US military strikes on Iran. Speaking outside the White House, the former US president commented, “I might do it, or maybe not,” further stating, “No one knows what I’ll do,” as speculation grows over possible American involvement in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

Trump expressed growing frustration with Iran, asserting his patience has “already run out,” though he provided little clarification on what actions might follow. He also revealed that Iran had reached out to the US in an attempt to initiate dialogue. “Yes,” he confirmed when asked if contact had been made, adding, “I told them it’s too late to talk now… There’s a big difference between today and a week ago, isn’t there?”

He went on to say Iran had even proposed sending representatives to Washington, which he described as a “bold” move. Trump questioned Iran’s timing, asking, “Why didn’t you negotiate with me before all this death and destruction? Why not two weeks ago?” Despite his criticisms, he concluded that negotiations were still possible, saying, “It’s not too late.”

Trump also confirmed ongoing communication with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating he urged him to “keep going” in the fight.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned the US against intervening, vowing that Iran “will never surrender” and cautioning Washington about “irreparable damage” should it get involved in the conflict.

These comments follow Trump’s call for Iran to “surrender unconditionally,” and his assertion that the US has the power to eliminate the Iranian leader if necessary. In response to perceived threats from Iran, the US announced a bolstering of its defense systems in the Middle East, including the redeployment of the aircraft carrier Nimitz.

The crisis reached a new height when Israel, citing intelligence that Iran was nearing the "point of no return" in its nuclear ambitions, launched a massive strike on Friday. The unprecedented assault targeted hundreds of Iranian military and nuclear sites, reportedly killing top officials and nuclear scientists.

This marks a turning point after years of proxy warfare and limited engagements, as Israel and Iran now face each other in direct and intense military conflict.
