Aziz Akhannouch strengthens ties with World Bank’s MENA vice president
On Monday in Rabat, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch met with Ousmane Dione, Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Their discussions focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Morocco and the World Bank Group, with the goal of enhancing the institution’s support for the country’s development priorities.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the structural reforms initiated by the Moroccan government under the High Royal Directives. It also highlighted various programs that have helped maintain macroeconomic stability and reinforce national economic resilience, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
Akhannouch commended the World Bank’s efforts in supporting Morocco’s development projects, emphasizing the alignment of these initiatives with government priorities. He particularly praised the Bank’s involvement in key national projects that reflect the enlightened Royal Vision.
Discussions also covered various sectors in which the World Bank has expressed its commitment to supporting Morocco, including job creation, water security, climate change mitigation, digital transition, energy efficiency, the blue economy, and human capital development.
Additionally, both parties explored future collaboration prospects, particularly regarding the Bank’s assistance in infrastructure and connectivity projects as Morocco prepares to host major international events.
Morocco and the World Bank Group have maintained a strong partnership since 1960, mobilizing over $27.12 billion for various development projects across multiple sectors in the country.
