US-Israel strategy to defeat Hamas and address regional stability

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have presented a unified stance on eradicating Hamas in Gaza, emphasizing their shared approach to Hamas and Iran. Rubio's visit to Israel, part of his first Middle East trip as Secretary of State under President Donald Trump's administration, included strong remarks against their adversaries. Both leaders pledged to eliminate Hamas, with Netanyahu warning that the gates of hell would open if hostages held by militants were not released.

Their statements followed a ceasefire agreement brokered by the US, Qatar, and Egypt, which saw the release of three Israeli hostages in exchange for 369 Palestinian prisoners. Rubio also reaffirmed the commitment to Trump's controversial plan for Gaza's future, which includes relocating Gazans to Jordan or Egypt. Although this plan faces international opposition, particularly from Arab nations advocating for a two-state solution, Rubio maintained that the Trump plan is the current course of action.

While discussions continue on the second phase of the truce, Rubio condemned Hamas's actions, calling for the immediate release of all captives. The ceasefire, in its first phase, has been fragile, with hostilities threatening to resume. In addition to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, regional stability remains fragile, with Iran's involvement in supporting militant groups in Yemen and Lebanon exacerbating tensions.
