Morocco Prioritizes Justice and Equality with New Human Rights Initiatives

Morocco marks significant progress in embedding human rights values through strategic agreements and international collaboration.

Morocco is advancing its human rights agenda with a series of initiatives focused on youth empowerment, gender equality, and social justice. Marking International Human Rights Day, the country announced landmark agreements aimed at integrating human rights principles into public policies and government programs.

At an event organized by the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid highlighted Morocco’s commitment to fostering coexistence and tolerance. He emphasized the ministry’s active role in child protection and promoting inclusive societal values.

A key milestone of the event was the signing of a cooperation framework between the Ministry of Youth and the Interministerial Delegation. “This partnership marks a new phase in our shared mission to uphold dignity and promote social justice,” said Bensaid.

Collaboration with International Partners

The event showcased Morocco’s efforts to collaborate with global partners in promoting human rights. UN Resident Coordinator Nathalie Fustier commended the country’s strides in combating discrimination, promoting gender equity, and building a diverse, inclusive society.

Morocco’s partnership with the United Nations has been instrumental in addressing systemic inequalities. Initiatives like the 2025-2027 action plan, developed with UN Women, aim to incorporate gender perspectives into policymaking. This plan includes conducting gender analyses and creating roadmaps to address inequalities while fostering equity and empowerment.

Focus on Education and Youth

One of the agreements signed during the event targets human rights education for youth, women’s associations, and vocational training institutions. This initiative seeks to raise awareness and encourage active participation in human rights advocacy.

Seminars and workshops will further support these efforts, creating platforms for dialogue and knowledge-sharing.

Ongoing Challenges and a Promising Future

While Morocco has made notable progress, challenges persist, particularly in integrating youth into society and addressing gender-based violence. However, these obstacles have not deterred the country’s commitment to meaningful change.

Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi also announced Morocco’s plan to support the United Nations’ 10th resolution on the moratorium on the death penalty, signaling a shift in policy that aligns with broader human rights objectives.

As Morocco continues its journey toward justice and equality, its initiatives underscore a commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable future for all citizens.
