The Justice Department has issued a warning to Elon Musk's super PAC, America PAC, regarding its ambitious $1 million daily giveaway aimed at voters in key battleground states. Sources indicate that the department's Public Integrity Section, which oversees election-related matters, is concerned that the initiative may contravene federal election laws.

The specifics of the Justice Department's communication remain undisclosed, and officials have refrained from commenting on the matter. Meanwhile, America PAC's treasurer has not responded to requests for clarification. The scrutiny surrounding Musk’s lottery has intensified, with calls from former prosecutors and government officials urging an investigation into potential violations, particularly concerning the prohibition against compensating individuals for voter registration.

Legal experts express mixed opinions on the legality of Musk’s contest. While some argue it could breach election laws, others believe it occupies a legal gray area. Matthew Sanderson, an election law consultant and former Republican advisor, noted, “I can see what people are saying when they argue this violates the law, but I don’t think it does.”

A representative from America PAC expressed confidence in the legality of the initiative. To participate in the contest, individuals must be registered voters in one of seven swing states and must sign a petition endorsing the First and Second Amendments. The contest targets voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Musk has publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump and initiated America PAC to bolster Trump's electoral efforts. Recently, he has been active in Pennsylvania, promoting voter registration and voicing support for Trump while also sharing various conspiracy theories.

Musk announced the daily giveaway during a town hall event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, committing to distribute $1 million each day until Election Day. So far, four winners have been announced. As the world's wealthiest individual with a net worth of approximately $240 billion according to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index, Musk’s actions continue to draw significant attention in both political and legal spheres.
