In a landmark development, Morocco and the United States have inaugurated a significant new phase in their joint efforts towards disarmament and non-proliferation. This was marked by the formalization of a groundbreaking twinning agreement on Friday in Washington, solidifying their cooperative spirit.

The agreement forges a strategic link between Morocco's National Laboratory of Forensic Police, under the Directorate General of National Security, and the esteemed Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the United States. This collaboration aims to enhance scientific interoperability and bolster the capabilities of both nations in addressing global security challenges.

The ceremonial signing took place at the U.S. Department of State, graced by the presence of Deputy Secretary of State Mallory Stewart and Morocco's Ambassador to the U.S., Youssef Amrani. The event also saw a significant Moroccan delegation, including Ismaïl Chekkori, Director of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates; Chief of Police Taoufik Sayerh; Chief Commissioner Hakima Yahya; and representatives from the National Authority on the Chemical Weapons Convention.

"At the heart of our interactions lie new processes and means aimed at advancing scientific interoperability among relevant laboratories, while fully capitalizing on the strong diplomatic and political convergences in our respective visions for international peace and security," remarked Youssef Amrani during his address.

Amrani highlighted the historic and unique relationship between Morocco and the United States, underscored by shared values and principles. He pointed out that this twinning agreement represents a significant breakthrough, poised to enhance the capabilities of both Morocco and its African partners in the realm of disarmament and non-proliferation.

The Moroccan delegation celebrated the initiative, emphasizing its success in advancing both bilateral and multilateral efforts, particularly concerning the Chemical Weapons Convention. This agreement is seen as a major step forward in the global campaign against the proliferation of chemical weapons.

Deputy Secretary of State Mallory Stewart also lauded the partnership, praising the robust collaboration with Morocco and the ongoing efforts to strengthen their joint initiatives. Stewart stressed the importance of this alliance in achieving shared goals for international peace and security.
