GCC population projected to reach 62.8 million in 2025

The population of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is expected to reach 62.8 million people in 2025, reflecting continued demographic growth across the six member states. According to the GCC Statistical Centre, the region has experienced steady population expansion over the past several years, driven by both natural population growth and economic development.

The number of residents increased from approximately 56.6 million in 2022 to 61.5 million in 2024, representing an average annual growth rate of around 3.5 percent. Current projections indicate that this upward trend will continue in the coming decades, with the population expected to reach nearly 83.6 million by 2050.

Despite accounting for less than one percent of the global population, the GCC remains one of the world's fastest-growing regions in demographic and economic terms. Continued investment, urban development, and labor market demand have contributed to sustained population growth across member countries.

One of the defining characteristics of the region is its relatively young population. People between the ages of 15 and 34 represent a significant share of residents, while the working-age population continues to account for more than three-quarters of the total population. This demographic profile supports economic activity by providing a large labor force capable of meeting the demands of expanding industries.

Children under the age of 15 also make up a considerable portion of the population, whereas older adults represent a much smaller percentage. However, demographic experts expect the number of elderly residents to gradually increase over the coming decades as life expectancy improves and populations age.

The latest demographic indicators also highlight the region's distinctive gender balance, influenced by the presence of large expatriate workforces in several GCC countries. In addition, the region maintains relatively low population density compared with many other parts of the world due to its vast geographic area.

Population trends remain an important factor in long-term planning across the Gulf, influencing policies related to housing, education, healthcare, transportation, and employment. Governments continue to invest in infrastructure and public services to accommodate future population growth while supporting sustainable economic development.

As the GCC advances its long-term development strategies, demographic growth is expected to play a central role in shaping labor markets, investment opportunities, and social planning throughout the region.
