Morocco ranks 19th globally among ai-ready outsourcing destinations

Morocco is strengthening its position on the global outsourcing map as artificial intelligence increasingly reshapes the international business services industry. The country has entered the Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index 2026, ranking 19th among 25 assessed destinations, with a score of 43.35 out of 100.

The ranking, published by Ataraxis, evaluates how prepared outsourcing markets are to adapt to an economy in which artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly integrated into everyday business operations. Morocco and Egypt were the only representatives of the Middle East and North Africa region included in the index.

At the African level, Morocco ranked fifth. South Africa led the continent with 66.5 points, followed by Egypt with 49.35, Nigeria with 49.15 and Kenya with 47.6. Ghana followed Morocco with 42.25 points.

The results highlight the growing importance of artificial intelligence in determining the competitiveness of outsourcing destinations. Traditional advantages such as labor costs, language capabilities and digital infrastructure are increasingly being complemented by the availability of AI-related skills and the ability of companies to deploy these technologies effectively.

The index is based on four main indicators. AI adoption among the population accounts for 30% of the overall score, while AI-related workforce skills carry the same weight. Corporate AI adoption represents 25%, and education and training linked to artificial intelligence account for the remaining 15%.

The assessment draws on data from several international sources, including Microsoft, Cloudflare, OpenAI, the OECD, LinkedIn, Coursera and GitHub, in an effort to compare the readiness of different outsourcing markets for an increasingly AI-driven business environment.

Morocco's performance varies across the four categories. The country scored 48 points for AI adoption among the population, 41 points for workforce skills, 39 points for corporate adoption and 46 points for education and training related to artificial intelligence.

Corporate adoption emerged as Morocco's weakest area, suggesting that greater efforts may be needed to accelerate the integration of AI tools within businesses. Wider adoption could help companies improve productivity, automate repetitive tasks and develop more competitive digital services.

Despite this weakness, Morocco performed better in corporate AI adoption than several competing outsourcing destinations, including Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan and Bangladesh. This indicates that the country already has a foundation on which it could build a stronger position in AI-supported outsourcing.

Morocco's overall score also placed it ahead of several emerging destinations. Pakistan recorded 40.6 points, Nepal 34.3 and Bangladesh 32.8, while Uganda and Ethiopia scored 25.1 and 24.2 respectively.

The changing competitive landscape reflects a broader transformation in the outsourcing industry. International companies are increasingly looking for destinations that can combine competitive costs with digital expertise, multilingual talent, technological infrastructure and the ability to use artificial intelligence effectively.

For Morocco, inclusion among the world's top 25 outsourcing destinations represents an opportunity to reinforce its attractiveness to international companies. The country has developed a significant outsourcing and business-process services sector, while demand for digitally skilled workers continues to grow.

However, the index does not measure overall technological development or predict which countries will lead the global AI revolution. Instead, it focuses specifically on the current capacity of outsourcing destinations to operate in an environment where AI tools are becoming increasingly important.

Ataraxis also emphasizes that the ranking should not be used as the sole basis for investment or outsourcing decisions. Factors such as infrastructure, operating costs, political and economic stability, workforce availability and specialized expertise remain essential when companies select international service locations.

For Morocco, the challenge now is to convert its growing AI readiness into broader corporate adoption and stronger workforce capabilities. Expanding AI education, encouraging companies to integrate intelligent technologies and developing specialized digital skills could help the Kingdom move higher in future rankings and capture a larger share of the global outsourcing market.
