A first in Morocco: E-commerce platforms now accept QR-code mobile payments

In a groundbreaking development for Morocco’s digital economy, e-commerce merchants can now accept mobile payments via QR code, thanks to Fast Payment's upgraded online platform. This marks the first time such functionality is available to online sellers in the country.

Users of electronic wallets (m-Wallets) can now pay for their online purchases simply by scanning a QR code, joining traditional payment methods like VISA and MasterCard, which are already integrated into the Fast Payment system. Currently, eight banks and thirteen financial institutions issue m-Wallets under the “MarocPay” label.

The payment process is straightforward. Once the e-merchant generates a QR code based on the order amount, the customer scans it using their m-Wallet app and confirms the payment. The merchant receives the payment instantly—unlike card transactions, which typically take at least one day to process.

Fast Payment’s solution is designed to reduce the risks associated with cash-on-delivery and to streamline the customer journey with a fast and secure payment method. This feature also helps merchants avoid delays and optimize operations.

Fast Payment, licensed by Bank Al-Maghrib since 2019, is a specialized player in electronic transactions. The company aims to expand this secure, innovative payment method across the Moroccan digital market, especially among e-merchants already using prepaid cards or cash-on-delivery models.
