MAS postpones Hamid Hazzaz friendly tournament in Fès

The Maghreb de Fès (MAS) has announced the postponement of the Hamid Hazzaz friendly tournament, which was scheduled to take place from September 18 to 20 at the Fès sports complex. The club did not announce a new date for the third edition of the competition.

The tournament was expected to bring together four Moroccan clubs: AS FAR, Wydad de Fès (WAF), KAC de Kénitra and hosts Maghreb de Fès. The event was designed to provide the participating teams with an opportunity to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the new competitive season.

A pre-season event postponed

The Hamid Hazzaz tournament was set to take place only a few days before the start of the Botola, scheduled for September 24. Its postponement changes part of the preparation plans for the four clubs, which had been expected to use the competition as a final opportunity to assess their squads and tactical options before the league campaign.

Beyond its sporting purpose, the tournament carries a commemorative dimension. It is named after Hamid Hazzaz, the former Maghreb de Fès and Morocco goalkeeper who became one of the notable figures in Moroccan football.

The competition was therefore intended to combine pre-season preparation with a tribute to a player whose career remains associated with both his club and the national team.

MAS enters the season after continental success

The postponement comes at a particularly important stage for the reigning Moroccan champions. MAS recently secured its place in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after overcoming Burkina Faso’s Rahimo FC.

The Fès side had already established a strong advantage in the first leg, winning 4-1. In the return match in Ouagadougou last Saturday, the Moroccan champions completed the task and advanced to the next stage of the continental competition.

With the Botola season approaching and continental commitments also on the calendar, MAS now faces a busy period of preparation. The absence of a new date for the Hamid Hazzaz tournament leaves the club and the other participating teams awaiting further details regarding the future of the competition.
