Royal Air Maroc Expands Connectivity Between Rabat and Laayoune

In a move to strengthen regional ties and boost tourism, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has announced the resumption of air services between the cities of Rabat and Laayoune. The airline will now offer two flights per week on this route, providing enhanced connectivity for travelers.

The inaugural flight on Wednesday carried 96 passengers and departed Rabat-Salé Airport at 1:15 p.m. local time, arriving at Hassan I Airport in Laayoune at 3:10 p.m. Return flights from Laayoune will depart weekly at 4 p.m. and arrive in Rabat at 5:50 p.m.

Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, the President of the Laayoune Sakia El Hamra Regional Council, emphasized the importance of this flight resumption, stating that it will further strengthen the region's appeal. "The flight resumption is part of the implementation of a renewed partnership between Royal Air Maroc, Laayoune's Regional Council, OCP, the tourism department, as well as the agency for the promotion, economic and social development of Morocco's southern provinces," he added.

Salma Alaya, the acting commander of the Laayoune Hassan I airport, highlighted the dynamic growth in national air traffic through the airport. She noted that the number of passengers traveling through Laayoune's airport during the first five months of 2024 recorded a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

The resumption of the Rabat-Laayoune route is part of a broader effort to enhance connectivity and promote the region's appeal. By strengthening the partnership between RAM, OCP, and other local entities, the initiative aims to boost tourism and economic development in the area.

As the air travel industry continues to navigate the post-pandemic landscape, the expansion of this route by Royal Air Maroc represents a positive step towards restoring and enhancing air connectivity within Morocco. The increased frequency of flights between Rabat and Laayoune is poised to benefit both business and leisure travelers, contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the region.
