Huawei's commitment to Africa's digital evolution

Huawei's recent Intelligent Africa Summit 2025, held in conjunction with GITEX Africa in Marrakech on April 15, reaffirmed the company's dedication to collaborating with African stakeholders in fostering a smarter, interconnected future.

The summit gathered influential partners to deliberate on the pivotal role of artificial intelligence (AI) in promoting inclusive development across the continent. Under the theme “Amplifying intelligence for a new Africa,” discussions centered on how AI and digital innovation can influence Africa's trajectory amidst ongoing technological transformation.

In his opening remarks, Shen Li, President of Huawei Northern Africa, highlighted the necessity for collaboration in Africa's transformative journey. He assured attendees that Huawei would maintain its partnerships with various stakeholders, focusing on essential pillars of AI development, including public policies, technology, ecosystem, and talent. “Together, we can accelerate intelligence and build a new Africa,” he stated.

Lacina Koné, Smart Africa's Director General and CEO, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of digital transformation strategies that resonate with Africa's unique context. He called for a deeper commitment to policies, partnerships, and community engagement to enable Africa to navigate the challenges posed by the rapid evolution of AI.

Koné also pointed to Africa's demographic strength, noting that over 70% of the population is under the age of 30. This youthful demographic, he argued, is a wellspring of creativity and resilience necessary for driving the continent's technological revolution.

Mounir Soussi, Vice President of Huawei Northern Africa, discussed customer-centered opportunities within the swiftly changing digital landscape. He stressed that this era of inclusive AI presents new possibilities for Africa, reaffirming Huawei's commitment to prioritizing customer needs in technology development.

The summit also spotlighted the critical role of new infrastructure in advancing AI initiatives throughout Africa. Ahmed Talaat, CTO of Huawei Cloud Northern Africa, articulated Huawei's commitment to establishing intelligent cloud infrastructure within the telecommunications sector and promoting innovation across various industries through a synergistic approach of AI and cloud technologies.

Marouane Akrab, Digital Center Manager at Attijariwafa Bank, provided practical insights into harnessing AI to create value. He detailed the bank's strategic evolution towards data governance and the integration of advanced analytical tools, emphasizing the imperative of adapting teams to effectively utilize data and AI.

A high-level panel discussion further explored the concept of a new ecosystem, highlighting the urgency of fostering collaborative frameworks that support sustainable digital transformation. The summit's blend of visionary strategies, inspiring case studies, and actionable insights laid the groundwork for an ambitious agenda aimed at enhancing Africa’s digital future.

Ultimately, the Huawei Intelligent Africa Summit 2025 reinforced the company’s unwavering commitment to partnering with African stakeholders in developing an intelligent, innovative landscape that drives inclusive progress across the continent.
