France-Morocco partnership gains momentum through new cooperation initiatives in Fès

The partnership between France and Morocco is entering a renewed phase of cooperation, with Fès emerging as one of the key locations for strengthening diplomatic, cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

During celebrations marking France’s national day on July 14, French Consul General in Fès Carine Foeller highlighted the importance of reinforcing bilateral relations and developing new areas of collaboration based on trust, dialogue and shared interests.

A relationship built on history and human connections

Speaking before regional authorities, elected officials, business representatives, academics, cultural figures and members of the French community, Carine Foeller emphasized that the French national celebration represented more than a commemorative event.

She said the values associated with the French Republic — liberty, equality, fraternity, dialogue and confidence — continue to resonate within the relationship between France and Morocco.

The diplomat recalled that ties between the two countries are supported by decades of shared history and by strong human connections involving economic exchanges, universities, scientific cooperation and cultural partnerships.

She also referred to moments of popular unity during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Moroccan and French supporters celebrated together, describing such events as a reflection of the close relationship between both peoples.

Fès at the center of regional cooperation

The French Consul General highlighted the practical cooperation taking place across the consular district covering the Fès-Meknès and Oriental regions.

She pointed to partnerships involving local authorities, universities, schools, companies, associations and Moroccan institutions as examples of a relationship focused on concrete projects.

Her dual role as consul general and delegated director of the Institut français allows her to combine support for French citizens with the development of initiatives in culture, education, research and youth development.

Culture and education as pillars of partnership

The Institut français has expanded cooperation with universities, training institutions and community organizations to promote educational innovation, academic mobility, French language learning and youth employment opportunities.

Among the initiatives highlighted were the Best Speaker competition in Fès, decentralized cooperation with France’s Centre-Val de Loire region and a concert by Moroccan rapper Khtek that attracted nearly 15,000 spectators.

These projects reflect a broader strategy aimed at making cultural cooperation more accessible throughout the region while encouraging exchanges between French and Moroccan communities.

New opportunities in strategic sectors

Carine Foeller said the July 14 celebration takes place during a particularly favorable diplomatic period, ahead of a high-level meeting between the French and Moroccan governments.

According to the diplomat, this phase reflects renewed political confidence and could open new opportunities in strategic sectors, including the economy, innovation, renewable energy transition, digital technologies, higher education, culture and professional training.

With its historic heritage and ongoing economic and urban transformation, Fès is positioned as a strategic platform for implementing this renewed partnership and turning diplomatic commitments into long-term cooperation projects.
