Ukraine Conflict: trilateral talks scheduled in Abu Dhabi

The Kremlin confirmed on Monday that a new round of direct talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States will take place on Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi. The negotiations aim to explore a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The first cycle of discussions, held on January 23–24 in the United Arab Emirates, ended without a breakthrough. The second round had initially been planned for February 1 but was postponed to align the schedules of the three parties, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously confirmed the new dates.

Key issues, particularly territorial disputes, remain highly contentious. Russia is demanding that Ukrainian forces withdraw from parts of the industrial Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine—a move Ukraine views as politically and militarily unfeasible, given the high casualties suffered by Ukrainian soldiers defending the area.
