Netanyahu says US and Israel ready for renewed Iran strikes

Iran’s escalating missile and drone activity across the Gulf has sharpened regional tensions, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that both the United States and Israel remain prepared for further military action against Tehran. The remarks come after attacks attributed to Iran targeted areas linked to Kuwait and Bahrain, intensifying fears of a wider confrontation despite the existence of a fragile, informal ceasefire framework involving Washington and Tehran.

Netanyahu accused Iran of deliberate provocation and described its conduct as tactical escalation aimed at testing regional responses. In public comments, he said Iran was “playing a game” that could trigger renewed large-scale operations. He also stated that he maintains frequent communication with US President Donald Trump and suggested that both governments are aligned on the possibility of returning to military action if conditions deteriorate further. Netanyahu further claimed internal instability within Iran could eventually lead to systemic collapse, comparing potential political change to historical regime failures.

Military activity in the Gulf has already produced direct consequences on the ground. US and allied forces reported intercepting or neutralizing incoming missiles launched toward Kuwait and Bahrain, while Iranian forces claimed responsibility for strikes targeting American-linked facilities, including sites associated with the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Authorities in Kuwait confirmed at least one fatality, multiple injuries, and temporary disruption at Kuwait International Airport following the attacks. In response, US Central Command conducted a strike against a military installation on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking a rapid cycle of retaliation between the two sides.

Diplomatic channels have also come under strain as hostilities intensify. Iran suspended indirect negotiations with the United States earlier in the week, citing ongoing regional military operations and accusing external actors of undermining ceasefire conditions it considered essential for continued dialogue. US political leaders reacted differently to the suspension, with Donald Trump downplaying its significance while insisting that discussions remain active. The US Secretary of State signaled that an agreement could still emerge within days or weeks, while warning that approval was not guaranteed across US political institutions.

The combined military and diplomatic developments reflect a broader pattern of instability in the Gulf region, where overlapping conflicts involving state and non-state actors continue to raise the risk of wider escalation. With missile exchanges, retaliatory strikes, and suspended negotiations unfolding simultaneously, the situation remains highly volatile and dependent on rapid political decisions in Washington, Tehran, and regional capitals.
