Texas military helicopter crash kills two US soldiers

Two US Army soldiers were killed Wednesday after an AH-64E Apache attack helicopter crashed in central Texas, according to the military base responsible for the aircraft.

The helicopter, based at Fort Hood, went down near Salado, in Bell County, prompting an emergency response at the crash site.

Two soldiers killed in the crash

The US Army confirmed the deaths in a statement, saying the Apache had crashed in Salado and that two soldiers aboard the aircraft had died.

The military did not immediately provide further details about the circumstances of the accident, including what mission the helicopter was carrying out when it went down.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following the crash, with local authorities responding alongside military personnel.

Investigation expected to determine what happened

The AH-64E Apache is a US Army attack helicopter designed primarily for combat missions, including providing close air support and engaging armored targets. The aircraft involved in Wednesday's accident was stationed at Fort Hood, one of the US Army's major installations in Texas.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine what caused the helicopter to go down.

The deaths add to a series of serious military aviation accidents that have prompted renewed attention to operational safety and aircraft readiness within the US armed forces.

For now, the Army has released few details about the two service members or the events immediately preceding the crash.
