Shanghai-Casablanca Direct Flight: A New Link Strengthening Connections
Starting January 19, a new long-haul flight route will connect Shanghai to Casablanca. Operated three times weekly—on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—this service by a major Chinese airline will link Shanghai Pudong International Airport with Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, including a layover in Marseille.
Flights departing from Shanghai are scheduled to leave at 1:55 AM (local time) and arrive in Casablanca at 1:10 PM (local time). Return flights from Casablanca will depart at 5:10 PM (local time), landing in Shanghai the next day at 4:50 PM (local time). The route will utilize Boeing 787-9 aircraft with a seating capacity of 285, including 26 business-class seats.
This marks the airline’s second route to Africa, following the launch of a Shanghai-Cairo connection in December. The new service is strategically timed, coinciding with the Chinese New Year festivities between late January and mid-February. Known as the Spring Festival, this period sees millions of travelers within China and internationally, making it the largest human migration event globally.
The enhanced connectivity comes in the context of strengthened ties between Morocco and China, particularly since 2016 when Morocco removed visa requirements for Chinese citizens, making the kingdom a favored destination for travelers from China.
Established in 1988 and headquartered in Shanghai, this airline is China’s second-largest by passenger volume and operates a modern fleet exceeding 600 aircraft.
