Discovering Moroccan Melodies at the Mediterranean Festival

Discovering Moroccan Melodies at the Mediterranean Festival
Monday 14 - 16:00
Zoom

The 27th edition of the Mediterranean Exhibition of Performances and Traditional Roots in Manresa, Spain, which takes place from October 10-13, promises to be a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage. This year's event will feature a diverse array of artists exploring new methods through traditional folk culture from various countries.

Morocco has made a notable presence at this festival through its rich cultural offerings, particularly highlighted by the performance of singer-songwriter Laila Chakir. Originating from the city of Oujda, Morocco, Laila brings together innovative blends of North African traditions and progressive rock elements. Her music, inspired by rhythms like Gnawa, Raï, and Chaabi, along with popular genres, stands out as one of the festival's highlights.

Another standout performance comes from the duo Djamara, who revive traditional Kanawi folk melodies by integrating them with contemporary notes. Comprising Simouh Bichra and Boualam Fadil, this dynamic pair offers a fresh perspective on cultural heritage infused with modern touches.

Additionally, Widad Majama, Morocco's pioneering female rapper, pays tribute to the ancient poetic-musical art form known as Ouytaa. Alongside producer Khalil Ibi, she presents her project "Ouytaa Mon Amour," blending tradition with innovation.

The annual festival serves as a platform for artistic exchange and collaboration within the Mediterranean cultural sphere. It strives to bridge the gap between creative production and general audiences while fostering mutual understanding and cooperation among participants.

As Manresa celebrates its rich musical heritage, it becomes clear that these performances represent much more than mere entertainment; they embody a journey through time and culture, showcasing Morocco's vibrant musical landscape to international audiences. Whether you're a seasoned music enthusiast or simply curious about diverse cultural expressions, this festival promises an unforgettable experience filled with melody and tradition.
