Unprecedented Heat Wave in Morocco Sparks Public Outrage Over 20 Deaths

In Morocco, public outrage has erupted following reports that 20 individuals have succumbed to extreme heat conditions. These fatalities were allegedly recorded within a 24-hour period at a regional hospital in Beni Mellal, further fueling widespread concern and anxiety among the populace.

In the wake of these alarming reports, the Ministry of Health has issued a press release detailing the measures being taken to mitigate the impacts of the severe heat wave sweeping the country. However, the ministry has not officially confirmed the reported deaths.

"The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announces it has implemented a series of emergency measures to address the health effects resulting from the high heat wave currently affecting the country," the statement read. It emphasized that healthcare facilities in the most affected regions have activated special shifts to manage the increased demand for medical attention.

The ministry also urged citizens to adopt necessary precautions to safeguard their health during this period of extreme temperatures. Special attention was advised for vulnerable groups, including children and pregnant women. Key recommendations included staying hydrated by drinking sufficient water and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Morocco is currently grappling with unusually high temperatures, particularly in its central provinces and southern regions. In some areas, such as Marrakech, temperatures have soared to a blistering 46 degrees Celsius.

The health ministry highlighted the potential symptoms of heat-related illnesses, which can include fever, pale skin, cramps in the limbs and abdominal muscles, weight loss, nausea, and headaches. The statement strongly advised seeking immediate medical assistance if any of these symptoms occur.

As the heat wave continues to affect large swathes of the country, the public remains on high alert, calling for more robust actions and transparency from the authorities to prevent further tragedies.
