Morocco’s Billionaire Standouts Highlight Economic Growth in 2025

The latest Forbes World’s Billionaires list reveals Morocco's rising economic stature, with three prominent figures making their mark among the 3,028 global billionaires. This year, Morocco ranks third in Africa for billionaire representation, trailing South Africa and Nigeria.

Othman Benjelloun, the CEO of BMCE Bank of Africa, leads the Moroccan contingent with a net worth of $1.6 billion. Ranking 2110 worldwide and 14th in Africa, Benjelloun has built his fortune through banking and insurance. His business interests extend to a significant stake in the Moroccan branch of French telecom giant Orange, facilitated by his holding company, FinanceCom. At 92, he is driving forward ambitious projects, including the $500 million Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat, poised to become one of Africa’s tallest structures.

Anas Sefrioui, founder and CEO of Groupe Addoha, also shares a net worth of $1.6 billion, marking his return to the billionaire ranks for the first time since 2017. Like Benjelloun, he ranks 2110 globally and 14 in Africa. Sefrioui's wealth stems from his success in the low-cost housing sector, where he has significantly impacted Morocco's real estate landscape. His daughter, Kenza Sefrioui, plays a crucial role as deputy chairman, reinforcing the family’s influence in the industry.

Completing the Moroccan trio, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch boasts a fortune of $1.5 billion, placing him at 2233 globally and 16 in Africa. The 64-year-old heads Akwa Group, a conglomerate with interests in petroleum, gas, and chemicals. Akhannouch, who was appointed Prime Minister in September 2021, holds an MBA from Université de Sherbrooke and continues to expand his family's business legacy, with his wife, Salwa Idrissi, managing franchises for luxury brands in Morocco.

The African continent has reached a significant milestone this year, with its billionaire count reaching 22 and their collective wealth surpassing $100 billion for the first time. Morocco's representation underscores its growing influence in Africa's economic landscape, especially in the face of market challenges and political uncertainties.

As the global wealth landscape evolves, Morocco's inclusion in this prestigious list highlights the country's potential and resilience in fostering economic growth amidst a dynamic environment.
