Turkey accuses Israel of seeking to create a “Fait Accompli” in Lebanon
Turkey has accused Israel of attempting to create a “fait accompli” in Lebanon, despite the ongoing ceasefire with Hezbollah, according to remarks made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Speaking at a diplomatic forum in Antalya, in southern Turkey, Fidan claimed that Israel is taking advantage of shifting international attention to advance its position in the region. He suggested that ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States are diverting global focus, allowing Israel to act with less scrutiny.
The Turkish foreign minister also criticized what he described as Israeli “expansionism,” accusing Israel of using the broader conflict in the Middle East as justification for increasing its territorial control. He had previously made similar statements, alleging that the war is being used as a cover for further occupation.
The comments come amid heightened regional tensions and fragile diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining stability in Lebanon under the current ceasefire framework.
