TikTok introduces new interactive tools for comments and user engagement
TikTok is rolling out a series of new interactive features designed to make its comment sections more engaging and give users additional ways to communicate and participate in discussions. The updates include voice comments, polls and expanded options for sharing images.
One of the most notable additions is the Voice Comments feature, which will soon be available to users aged 18 and above. It will allow people to record audio messages of up to 60 seconds and post them directly beneath videos. Other users will then be able to tap the voice comment and listen to the recording.
The feature is intended to make conversations on the platform more expressive by adding an audio dimension to traditional text-based discussions. At the same time, the growing variety of comment formats could make moderation more challenging as users increasingly rely on multimedia interactions.
TikTok is also introducing Comment Polls, allowing creators to add polls directly to the comments section of their posts. Polls can include up to five response options, while creators can monitor participation and results as they develop. The feature is now available globally, following previous experiments with similar interactive tools through stickers and live broadcasts.
The platform is further expanding the role of images in its comments. Users can now share Live Photos from their camera rolls, allowing them to post images that capture a short sequence of movement and sound rather than a single still frame.
TikTok also plans to increase the number of images that can be included in a single comment to nine, displayed in a carousel format. The update is expected to be introduced in the coming month, giving users another way to share visual reactions and content without having to publish a separate video.
The new tools form part of TikTok’s broader effort to make interactions around its videos more dynamic. As social media platforms increasingly compete for user attention, comment sections have become an important space for community participation, creator engagement and content discovery.
By expanding comments beyond text, TikTok is seeking to create a more interactive environment while giving creators additional ways to involve their audiences. The success of these features will ultimately depend on how users adopt them and how effectively the platform manages the additional moderation and safety challenges that come with richer forms of communication.
